By the decision of the Senate of the University of Bialystok on June 26, 2019 (Resolution of the Senate of the University of Białystok No. 2476), on October 1, 2019, the Faculty of Chemistry inaugurated its independent research and teaching activities in the scientific discipline of chemical sciences. The fields of study offered at the Faculty of Chemistry are Chemistry (first and second degree), Criminalistic and forensic chemistry (second degree), and Environmental quality and safety (first degree).
The beginnings of university chemistry in Bialystok go back to 1968 when the Branch of the University of Warsaw in Bialystok with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences was established. Recruitment for Physics and Chemistry for 3-year vocational studies has started this year.
In 1969, the Department of Chemistry was established within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
In 1980, the Department of Chemistry was transformed into the Institute of Chemistry.
In 1997, the University of Bialystok was established. This year, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences was divided into the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry (with the Institute of Biology and the Institute of Chemistry) and the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics.
In 2000, the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry was authorized to confer doctoral degrees in the field of chemical sciences in the discipline of chemistry.
In 2014, the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry was authorized to confer the degree of doctor habilitated in the field of chemical sciences in the discipline of chemistry.
In 2015, the Institute of Chemistry moved to a new building on the University Campus at ul. Ciolkowskiego 1K.
In 2019, the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry was divided into two faculties: the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Biology.
