Post doc position in the NCN OPUS 20 Project

Competition for the NCN post-doc position within the NCN OPUS 20 project, entitled: “Tryptophan metabolites and their metal complexes as new drugs for colorectal cancer treatment and human gut microbiota regulation” in the Department of Analytical and Inorganic Chemistry, Division of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, University of Bialystok, Bialystok, Poland.

The scholarship is awarded in agreement with the rules set out in the Regulations on awarding research scholarships in research projects financed by NCN, introduced by the resolution of the NCN Council No. 96/2016 of 27 October 2016.

Requirements

  1. PhD in analytical or inorganic chemistry
  2. Advanced skills in using spectroscopic techniques: UV-Vis, NMR, FT-IR, spectrofluorimetry and others
  3. Experience in using potentiometry
  4. Experience in thermodynamic chemical speciation calculations
  5. Good rank of publications in peer-reviewed scientific articles in international journals (JCR list)
  6. Good skills in written and spoken English
  7. Teaching record would be much appreciated
  8. Experience in talking or writing about science to public would be much appreciated.

Task description

Postdoc fellow will work on the topic: “Solution equilibria studies of tryptophan metabolites (TrpM) metal complexes” in the Department of Analytical and Inorganic Chemistry, Division of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, University of Bialystok, Bialystok, Poland.

This topic will require the following activities and duties:

  • spectroscopic studies of the metal complexes in the presence of serum proteins using   spectroscopic techniques (mainly UV-Vis  and spectrofluorimetry)
  • determination of formation constants,
  • thermodynamic calculations using various computer programs,
  • systematic review and meta-analyses,
  • advising PhD student,
  • leading training workshops teaching advanced statistics and modeling relevant to project tasks for all members of the group.
  • writing manuscripts.

The research assistant will be encouraged to:

  • develop and work on its scientific ideas as side projects,
  • will be encouraged to write its own research grant.

Grant amount/month: 10 000 PLN /month brutto brutto

Period of grant agreement: 12 months
